Weekend Finds

I went shopping this weekend in the biggest mall in Connecticut, the Danbury Fair Mall! My mom, sister, two aunts, grandma, and I met up for a day at the mall. While I was there, there were several items that caught my eye. Here's a few of them, maybe they'll catch your eye too!

Coach Catrice Sunglasses
These Coach sunglasses. I walked straight to them as soon as a stepped in the door of the Coach store. They have almost a cat eye effect, and they were very flattering for a shorter face shape as they elongate the face and pull the attention upward...the same way short cat eye eyeliner seems to give the wearer wider eyes.

LOFT Petites red dress
This LOFT dress. I did buy this one. It was not what I was originally planning on getting, but when I saw it I kind of fell in love with it. It fits very nicely, with a nice A-line flare and cuts off a few inches above the knee. While you could wear this anytime during the fall/winter season, I think this dress would be perfect fit a Christmas party. I looked all over the web for a better picture to show you guys, but I can't find this dress anywhere! Its not even on the LOFT website.

Banana Republic Faux-Fur Trim Bow Coat
This Banana Republic wool-blend coat. The store did a very good job advertising this, as it was the very first thing my aunt and I saw when we walked in the door, and it definitely caught our attention. The length is perfect for a classy winter coat, and the faux fur collar is very chic. Its one of those pieces that I won't stop thinking about.

So those were my finds this weekend, did anyone else find anything worth sharing?
Happy Monday!

Fancy

My school homecoming was this past weekend! It was so much fun, and all of the dresses were amazing, as usual. I figured I would show you guys a couple a shots of mine!

The dress I wore

The Connected dress I wore was one I had already owned for a couple months, but I had never wore.
The Call it Spring heels are ones I have worn several times before, and they are just about my favorite pair of shoes ever.

So what do you guys think?
Happy Friday!

How to Make [Vintage] Modern.

So, for my social studies class I have to create an advertisement for a product in the 1920s, and I picked a fashion boutique (of course!) I was excited to look more closely at the fashion of the 1920s!

When I used to think of 1920s, I thought of dingy, old fashioned stuff that people called "Vintage." Looking into the really fashion of that decade, a discovered a beauty I'm sorry I missed before. The project really inspired me to look more into the fashion of the 1920s, and come out with a few 1920s inspired pieces you could incorporate into your fashion today!

The Pieces:

Long pearl strands. They just scream luxury! The fact that your body is literally draped in pearls, whether they're real ones or not, gives the wearer an air of dignity and class.

Long gloves. Elegance with a rebel air. Obviously I wouldn't suggest wearing these on a day to day basis, that's a little unnecessary, but if you have a fancy occasion to wear them for, rock them!

Beaded headbands. Its like the fancy, rich version of the boho headband look. I would totally wear these on a regular day with a nice outfit.

Now the trick to wearing cultural or throwback items without looking like your dressed for holloween is  to make sure you don't wear them all at the same time. Sneak one of them into an otherwise modern outfit to spice up the look, or give it a chic and unique spin. You will notice that in the modern pictures above this is executed very nicely.

So whenever you're feeling that vintage vibe but don't want to look like a crazy lady, rock one of these statements!
Have a fabulous day and feel free to voice your opinions in the comment section!

Finally!

I have to be honest with you.
As you may know, I want to be a fashion designer.
I don't have much sewing experience yet.
In fact, I just started learning the sewing basics a few weeks ago.

For the past year or so, I have been sketching clothing designs, but I have never actually done anything with them. Until a few weeks ago, when my friends bought me a sewing machine for my birthday.

I was so excited, and immediately started practicing the basic seams and hems. Today, I sewed my first "shirt." If you really want to call it that. If you can't see in the picture below, the shirt is only about 4 inches wide and 6 inches long. But, it was still so fun! Even this small step makes me so excited.

I can't wait to keep practicing so one day I can make a shirt that I can actually wear! And I better get going, because I'm going to need some pieces to put in my portfolio for college.
Wish me luck!

A Few of my Favorites.

As I am feeling much too lazy to write much today, here are some pictures of a few things I am currently in love with.

G.H. Bass & Co. Silver necklace

Seahorse bracelet from TJMAXX

Earrings from Puerto Rico

Gold and white ring from a gift shop in Mystic, Connecticut

This pendant means a lot to me. It's a symbol of Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic disease that I fight everyday

This Premise Studio sweater

Style & Co. tunic, Rampage booties

That's it for today! Happy Sunday everyone!

Florals.

Flowers everywhere! But this time, instead of blooming out of the earth, they're popping into fashion. While the floral prints started peeking out awhile ago, they really made waves during 2014 spring shows this year. So to celebrate the blooming of these beautiful flowers, here are a few of my favorite floral pieces:
These Dr. Martins.

They add a bit of femininity to the bulky work boot shape. One of my friends has a pair of these, and  I want to complement her every time she wears them.

These Spring 2014 Dolce and Gabanna earrings.

They are the perfect touch of floral to a light spring outfit, and the big bulky earring is a trend now, too.

This floral inspired makeup.

Its bright and fun, and could finish off a bright spring look, or add a pop of color to a neutral ensemble! I also love how natural it still looks, its not total overkill on the makeup.

I love how different each of these are, and how broad the range of possibilities is within the floral world! I can't wait until spring so I can flaunt these fun colors!
