A Few Thoughts.

I love haute couture. Absolutely amazing and luxe art. I would love to design haute couture someday. Even the feeling of just looking at pictures of the designs, like the one above, gives me the chills. The good kind.

However, the song "Royals" by Lorde (also absolutely amazing) has a very good point. While many people strive for wealth and fame, you don't need all of that to be happy and content.

What does this have to do with fashion? I'm saying go ahead and like whatever style and clothing you want, but don't judge other people because of their style, or lack thereof. I think that is an important and often needed reminder for many of us, including myself.
For Christians, God has called us to love others, and to show his love to everyone we come in contact with. I was reading James 2 today, and verse 2 warns against giving the best seat to the wealthy, while totally dissing the poor man. Aren't we all made in God's image? Love people no matter what they wear.

Autumn

So, right around this time everyone is thinking "autumn", right? Fall is one of my favorite fashion seasons. Now, you might say to me, "one of..?? There's only, like, 4 of them." I know, but honestly, all of them are my favorites for different reasons. But since everyone is in the cozy fall mood right now, I'll just talk about that.
I love fall for the scarves, warm colors, and jackets.
Its cold enough to start wearing jackets and sweaters, but warm enough to leave them open and show off your totally awesome shirt underneath.
I also love the scarf/sunglasses combo, and fall is really the only time of the year that you can pull it of without getting funny looks.
Fall is also the season for neutral colors, and I am IN LOVE with neutrals. You can mix and match almost any of them with each other and wear a whole neutral ensemble.
Also, the boots start coming out. Boots are my favorite type of shoes ever. They deserve a post all for themselves.
Fall is also the best time to go gallivanting around the city. Not so cold that you freeze to death, but your not dying of sweat, either.

Basically, you stay alive. And that's a good thing.

So, those are a few of my favorite things about fall. What are yours?

Oh, and if you are from somewhere that is warm all year round, I am truly sorry for your loss:)

New York Fashion Week.

As promised yesterday, here is a list of my observations and opinions of this year's New York Fashion Week, in random order:

  • High necklines are coming back in! (Love that)
  • Sneakers and flats dominated the runway this year, as opposed to heels- I noticed this especially in the DKNY show
  • There was a lot of nude colored mesh used, especially in the Carmen Marc Valvo show, which I like, it is a fun new option
  • Not as much vegan leather, which I am happy about, and it was replaced by equally attention-grabbing shimmering materials
  • There were a lot of sheer panels, and even mostly sheer shirts and dresses. I don't mind sheer, except that a lot of it showed parts of the body that I wouldn't like to show
  • The models looked sick and unhappy. This is where I have a strong opinion. The models should look healthy, not anorexic. There's a lot more I'd like to say about this topic, so I think that I will just make this a post in itself.
  • Coco Rocha is amazing, as always:) she's an amazing model and I think what she is doing with models' rights and all is really great
  • I really liked the DKNY zip up shoes:

  • BCBG Max Azria: my favorite collection. Lots of neutrals, some florals, all very classic and simple. The materials were rich and flowing. The shoes were amazing too.
  • And the last one... Marc Jacobs' show was very disappointing, and honestly, ugly. It was slouchy, grungy, and dirty. Not the high quality beauty that I was expecting from him.
That's it!!! Please let me know your thoughts and opinions as well, and what you agree/disagree with. Have a great day!

Fashion Month

Fashion month is ridiculously crazy. I've never actually been to any of the festivities, but judging by twitter, its crazy. I'm overwhelmed just reading the news, looking at pictures, and watching the shows on the interweb. There were a lot of great things and not-so-great stuff about the shows and everything else. I am really enjoying Milan fashion week, and for this one I'm just taking my time, not going crazy looking at everything as soon as it hits the web. For New York fashion week, though, I went crazy. I have a whole list of things I liked and didn't like about it, and I would post it here now, but it's in my sketchbook, which my art teacher currently has possession of. But, on the bright side, I have a topic for tomorrow's post!:) So stay tuned for my opinions of NYFW 2013!!!

Why Blog?

Hello!! My name is Alyssa Judson, I am an aspiring fashion designer, and just a lover of fashion and art! I am starting this blog because I thought it would be really cool to have a place to put all of my thoughts and opinions on fashion, and to hear your opinions of my opinions! So, please comment, say anything at all (no profanity, nothing explicit or offensive, of course.) I would love to hear from you, and I think that it would give me more insight as I design clothes into what other people would like to see, along with my own preferences. Thanks for reading!
